The 'Aula 10' award this year
went to Juan Claudio Cifuentes,
'Cifu' to his friends. A well
deserved recognition of his
tireless work promoting the
Spanish jazz sessions in
Melilla, he is one of the
pillars on which the Melilla
festival is founded. Visibly
moved, 'Cifu' received the award
from the president of Melilla.
The final set of the 10th
Melilla Jazz Sessions featured
the experienced 'The Bob Sands
Big Band' led by New York born
but long time Spanish resident,
saxophonist and flautist Bob
Sands. This great formation is
one of the most renowned jazz
bands in Spain. Its members are
all excellent musicians,
professionals in every sense of
the word, some of whom had
already played the Melilla
sessions in previous years as
members of other bands. With
their top quality, no-nonsense
sound they filled the PEC
concert hall. The 'Bob Sands Big
Band' played a well chosen set
which showcased the talented
musicians of this great band.
The encore 'Love for sale' gave
the audience something special
to take away with them. In
short, a good performance from
one of the most solid bands on
the Spanish jazz scene, which
provided a fitting end to this
edition of the Melilla jazz
festival. |
